Applications

Generally used in knitwear.

_

Impact on the environment

On top of the materials impact during harvest or production, blends are hardly recyclable so their impact on the environment can be significant.

_

More sustainable alternatives

Products made of one single fabric, preferably natural.

_

End of life possibilities

Restricted because of blend. Being a blended yarn does impose some difficulties on the end of life opportunities. Separation of the fibres is one of the biggest barriers preventing either fibre from being recycled or remanufactured. Re use as a blended fabric is restrictive and the stable nature of polyester prevents the fabrics from going into composting.

_

Our opinion

Even though it might be needed to blend fabrics for some applications, we would recommend to avoid blended fabrics. Indeed, they are very hard to recycle and often end up in landfills.
